Second Spec-a-thon Local Accommodations

The site of the Second JML Spec-a-thon is the University College Dublin campus in Dublin, Ireland (Google Maps, Campus Map). The exact location on campus is not yet available.

Air Travel

The nearest commercial airport is Dublin Airport (IATA Code: DUB), which is serviced by several major U.S. airlines and several international airlines. Flights are scheduled throughout the day, every day.

Ground Transportation

The events of 16-17 November will take place at the UCD School of Computer Science and Informatics, and the events of 18-20 November will take place at the UCD Complex and Adaptive Systems Laboratory (CASL). There are three possibilities for ground transportation between the airport, your hotel, and these locations:
  • AirCoach bus service - AirCoach (the blue bus) runs every 15 minutes and a round-trip ticket costs €14.00 (as you travel beyond Trinity college). The second leg of the round-trip ticket is good for many months. The bus stops on the east edge of campus, which is about a 20 minute walk to the CASL (Google Maps). The total travel time is approximately 60 minutes.
  • Taxi - A taxi to the CASL costs approximately €35. The travel time is approximately 45 minutes, at worst. If you arrive anywhere near rush hour and are in a hurry, taking the tunnel (which runs underneath north Dublin from out by the airport to Dublin docks) expedites things enormously and usually saves money too.
  • Dublin Bus - There is a city bus (they are yellow) that also runs from the airport into town; it is significantly slower, though does cost quite a bit less than the above choices. To get to the UCD campus from the city center, the main bus routes to use are the 2, 3, 10, 11, and 46. All of these have optional routes with single-letter suffixes (e.g., 46A). You must pay for a ticket in Euro coin and no change is given. Alternatively, you can pick up a book of 90 minute tickets from the main Dublin Bus office on O'Connell Street during business hours, or from various corner markets and similar at a wider range of times. See Fare Information and Ticket Agent Information on the Dublin Bus website for more details. For actually finding routes, the Dublin Bus website is worse than useless; http://mkmap.com/dublin provides much more interactivity and better maps.

Hotels

There is no designated hotel for the Second Spec-a-thon. We have noted some hotels close to University College Dublin on the Google Maps page; there are many other hotels in the general area as well.
